10 easy DIY tips to try out this year
When it comes to DIY home improvements, you want to make each task as easy for yourself as possible. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of some of the easiest DIY tips you can try out to finally get your home in the best shape it can be.
1. Give your kitchen cabinets a facelift
A lot of factors can certainly take their toll on your kitchen cabinets so why not spend a weekend refreshing them with by refacing them with some shaker style doors and sleek hardware. As with most interiors, it's best to keep your cabinets a natural colour so that you can easily accessorise with other colours later on.
2. Refresh your front door
Nothing screams kerb appeal quite like a standout front door, so you might want to consider giving your current door a refresh with a bold colour, a new letterbox or even a modern number.
3. Create a feature wall
Creating a feature wall is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to quickly change the look of a room. All you need to achieve this is some paint in a colour of your choosing or some pretty patterned wallpaper that you can put on one wall to make a serious style statement.
4. Update your hardware
Rather than choosing a whole new set of kitchen cabinets or bathroom fittings, update the appearance of those that you currently have with new hardware. New knobs and looks for your interior doors can be incredibly inexpensive and easy to install. The same goes for fittings in the bathroom such as taps, towel rails, and toilet roll holders.
5. Make your windows pop
Make your ideal windows stand out even more by adding some potted plants that will complement your home’s exterior. Choose flowers that are well suited to this type of environment such as busy lizzies, cosmos, and coreopsis.
6. Conceal any wall blemishes
If you’ve got cracks or blemishes on your wall, then you’ve got a perfect excuse for some easy DIY. Depending on the severity of the cracks, a caulk gun should be all you need to make the wall smooth enough to repaint.
7. Tile your backsplash
Modernising your kitchen backsplash is one of the easiest ways to turn a tired looking kitchen into a room that you can be proud of. Mosiac tiles are incredibly easy to install and come in a range of colours and styles that suit any home.
8. Restore period features
Period features in your home can be a huge wow factor, especially if they’ve been restored to their former glory. However, it’s important to proceed with caution, especially if it’s something that’s been neglected for some time. Take a few days to restore an old fireplace, repair original paneling and joinery or scrub and repoint old flooring.
9. Get rid of aging caulk
Got a few hours to spare? Then take some time to give your bathroom a much-needed makeover with fresh caulking. This is an incredibly easy task that won’t take a lot of time but once finished will make your bathroom suite look as clean as when it was first installed.
10. Bring the outside in
Indoor plants have seen a huge surge in popularity when it comes to modern interior design. Although not necessarily a DIY tip, why not get creative with some greenery that can liven up even the most minimalist spaces.
